We spent about two weeks on the Chilean mainland, mainly in the Atacama desert in the north, with a side trip to Bolivia, and in the wine regions just south of Santiago. We would have loved to visit the lake district but we were there at the wrong time of year year. Easter island was another five days.

Memorable things, apart from the amazing scenery, are ceviche and pisco sour, Chile’s national food and drink. Ceviche is raw seafood marinated in lime juice with chile, onion and garlic, etc. There are no standard recipes for these and they vary depending on where you are and who made them. Regardless, they are heaven!

We hopped across the border from Argentina to Chile and hiked in Torres del Paine in 2002. You can see these photos by clicking here.
